Intro to Blog

I have been alive for 15,179 days, and in many ways I feel like I'm just beginning my life. I'm currently in our bedroom in Brentwood, California. Chanel, Lauren, and Brynnly drove to Las Vegas to drop off our dog Willie at her mom's house. We are going to Hawaii in a few weeks and Chanel's mom will be watching him while we are away. I'm not sure we have any plans to bring him back. He's a fine dog, but Chanel and I have discovered that we aren't big on pets. It's exaggerated while living in the Bay Area, as I have work friends who replace their dogs' hips, treat them for pneumonia, and hire expensive dog walkers. I have always viewed dogs as an investment. Why spend thousands of dollars on an animal that costs a few hundred bucks to buy? Reading this aloud I realize I am a bit heartless. Oh well. Let's just say I'd rather buy a truck than pay for a dog to have back surgery.

I was motivated to write today by a great Sunday school lesson at church. It was based on passages from 1Corinthians. We discussed how to escape temptations, and it really resonated with me. We also spoke about how charity is the pure love of Christ, and the discussion really caused me to have a peaceful feeling. I haven't had that feeling much since moving. I left that class excited to be alive and super happy.

We have been discussing whether or not to move back to Colorado. During today's Sunday school lesson I looked around the room and realized that while Brentwood and California in general are a bit on the intense side, what with the car break-ins and reckless drivers and high prices for literally everything (especially pizza), I do feel we can make it work here. I really want to find a place to live and settle down. I want the kids to have a place from which they can say they grew up. As of right this second I feel it's a tie between CA and CO. Our family seems to be split down the middle, with Chanel, Julia, and Brynnly wanting to go back, and Lauren and Baylor wanting to stay here. I'll be fine in either place, but I will say if we stay here I'm going to want to find a job closer to home. I've been riding the BART for over a year now to get to Edelman in San Francisco, and the train's mystique is wearing a bit thin.

I wanted to capture a visual slice of life today, so I shot this video on the GoPro Kathy bought me.
